Lewis Hamilton celebrated

Historic Numbers And Records Of The United States Grand Prix

F1 Stats: Just a year ago, Lewis Hamilton celebrated with a masterly race his third world title here. A year later, he has burned another bullet to get closer to his teammate Nico Rosberg, who has the fingers of a hand the races that are missing with a margin greater than one of them. Daniel Ricciardo, who has become the alternative to Mercedes and ensures almost mathematically (it is enough to be ahead of Sebastian Vettel) his third place in the World Championship. Our Spaniards gave a recital and finished both among the top six, something that has rarely happened in Formula 1.

Three runs and 75 points in play with a distance of 26 in favor of Rosberg. Those are the accounts that make the fifth visit of the F1 Stats to Austin in this Great Prize of the United States. The Brit spent his first bullet but the German minimized damage and is only 49 points to be champion, whatever the three-time champion does.

The rest of the data left by this GP are analyzed below:

It is Hamilton’s 50th victory in F1 Stats and he is the third driver in history to achieve that, after Alain Prost (Great Britain 1993) and Michael Schumacher (France 2001), he has only one win to match the Frenchman as the second driver Of history with more victories. It is the seventh victory of the season. Only in 2014 and 2015 he achieved more in the same season and was champion in both.

It is Hamilton’s fifth win in the US, equaling Canada and Hungary as his most successful GPs. Only Schumacher has five or more wins in more GPs than Hamilton (three) in all of F1 Stats history. In addition, Lewis has equaled Ayrton Senna and Schumacher as the most victorious driver in the United States GP. Hamilton has won in five of the six editions of the US GP. In which he has participated. It only failed in 2013, which was fourth. It’s the British’s fourth win in Austin. He has already won four or more victories in five different circuits: Hungaroring, Montreal, Silverstone and Shanghai.

Hamilton equates to Senna like the second pilot of history with more victories from the pole, with 29 each. In front, only Schumacher, with 40. With his 53 laps leading, Lewis becomes the third driver in history to lead more than 2,800 laps behind Senna and Schumacher. The classification is as follows:

  • Schumacher 5111
  • Senna 2931
  • Hamilton 2820
  • Vettel 2685
  • Prost 2683

In the number of kilometers ahead, Hamilton overcomes Vettel and is already the second driver in history with more in all history, with 14,210. Only Schumacher has led more kilometers in F1 Stats than Hamilton: 24,148 by 14,210.

Lewis, in addition, managed his podium 101 being only five of Prost. It’s Lewis’s 14th podium this season. Only Prost in 1988; Barrichello in 2004 and Rosberg in 2014 and 2015 were not champions achieving 14 podiums in one season.

Hamilton’s fifth podium in the USA He equates to Senna and Prost and stays just one podium to match Graham Hill here and two of Schumacher’s record. It is the 13th different GP in which he achieves five or more podiums.

As every entry in the section, you need to enable a small section to talk about the numbers and records that the German team beats constantly. This weekend have taken another historical record.

They have equaled the record of 16 wins in a season set by them in 2014 and 2015 and have three races to beat themselves. Only they have managed to win 16 races in the same season and has done so in the last three consecutive seasons.

With today’s double, Mercedes equates to Williams as the third team in history with more doubles in the race, with 33. Now only Ferrari (81) and McLaren (47) have more doubles in F1 Stats race than they and Williams (33 ).

Mercedes, with 124 podiums, is only two podiums behind Brabham (6th) in the podiums and nine in Red Bull (5th, with 133).

Rosberg has today achieved his podium number 54 in F1 Stats, which equates to Niki Lauda as the 12th driver in history with more podiums. It is his sixth consecutive podium, the third time he reaches this number in his career. It is the number 13 podium he achieves this year.

Nico overcame his personal points record in one season with three races and 75 still in play (he has 331). To win the three remaining races, he will become the only driver in history to add more than 400 points in a season.

Rosberg will be a leader whatever happens to Brazil. There are 26 GPs ahead of the World Cup, just like Fittipaldi, and will match Mika Hakkinen in Mexico. You only have to add 50 points to be champion do what Hamilton does. With 49 it could be, as long as you win one of the three remaining races (the only possible combination for those 49 points is 25 + 12 + 12 = 49).

With 75 points in play, Rosberg has a 26-point lead. In Mexico he will be a champion only if he wins and Lewis is tenth or worse.

Daniel Ricciardo wins his podium number 17, with which equals Ascari and Keke Rosberg. In front, Frentzen and Hawthorn, with 18 each. It is the seventh podium of the season, making it already just one to match his personal record of eight in 2014.

Ricciardo already has 14 consecutive races scoring. It is the 14th best mark in history, just one of its personal record. There are 22 consecutive races that accumulate without abandoning, equaling the tenth best race in history (Fernnado Alonso between 2005-2006). He has 27 consecutive races qualifying, which is already the fifth best mark in the history of Formula 1.

Red Bull has already achieved 14 podiums this season. Best mark since 2013, equaling in number of podiums that they obtained in 2012, when they were champions. They have managed to climb to the podium in nine of the last ten races, failing only at Monza.

It is the sixth time that Red Bull has achieved 400 or more points in the same season of F1 Stats and only the second time that it does and it is not champion.

Vettel has accumulated the worst streak since his stage in 2008 with Toro Rosso only to add a podium in the last ten races. It is the second consecutive race that Vettel is fourth. It did not happen to him since Canada and Monaco 2012. Vettel has achieved his fast lap number 27. He is just one of equaling Clark as the sixth driver in history with more. It is, in addition, the second consecutive one of Vettel, something that it did not obtain from US-Abu Dhabi 2012.

Vettel is the first driver of Ferrari since Alonso in 2010 that achieves two consecutive fast returns. It is the fourth quickest lap of Vettel in the US, being the GP in which he has achieved the most; All here in Austin except for 2015: 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016.

Thanks to the three laps at the top of today, Vettel surpasses Prost and is already the fourth driver in history with more laps led in F1 Stats, with 2,685 for the 2,683 Frenchman.

Alonso equals the best result of the season, fifth also in Monaco. It is the third time that it achieves a top five with McLaren-Honda: Hungary 2015, Monaco 2016 and US 2016.

Alonso has already finished fifth in race 22 times. He is the second driver of the story that has been more times 5º, only after Jenson Button (27). Since mid-season (Great Britain), Alonso is the eighth driver who has added more points: 34. The same as Hülkenberg and only 11 less than Perez, beating both Williams.

McLaren with Button (going from 19th to 9th) is, along with Mercedes, the only team to score their two cars here. Only Mercedes (43) and Red Bull (15) have added more points than McLaren this GP. That McLaren was the third best team (or better) was not seen since Russia 2014, Gp in which they were the second team.

McLaren equals the best result of the season, also obtained in Monaco, with this fifth and ninth place. It is the third time in F1 that two Spaniards finish in top six in the same race: Alonso with Pedro De La Rosa in Turkey and China 2006 and 10 years later, Alonso with Carlos Sainz in the United States in 2016.

Sainz equaled his best position in F1, that of Spain 2016, with this sixth place. The Spaniard thus achieved another top six in F1, something that only Vettel and Verstappen had achieved with Toro Rosso twice in the same season. Carlos is the third driver in the history of Toro Rosso that adds 35 or more points with them in the same season, regardless of the scoring system, after Vettel in 2008 and Verstappen in 2015.

Since they are partners, the pair of Sainz and Daniil Kvyat is the most disproportionate of all on the grid. Carlos has added 30 points for the four added by the Russian. Here a small classification, first by points, then by percentage of points, of the pairs of teammates in points achieved since the Spanish GP 2016:

  • Bottes (62) – Mass (17): +45
  • Ricciardo (191) – Verstappen (152): +39
  • Pérez (82) – Hülkenberg (48): +34
  • Sainz (30) – Kvyat (4): +26
  • Alonso (44) – Button (20): +20
  • Hamilton (248) – Rosberg (231): +17
  • Vettel (144) – Räikkönen (127): +17
  • Magnussen (1) – Palmer (1): ± 0

If we look purely in the classification by percentages, we obtain the following, seeing as effectively, the pair more decompensated from the GP Spain is the one of Toro Rosso *:

  • Sainz 88% / Kvyat 12%
  • Bottas 78% / Mass 22%
  • Alonso 69% / Button 31%
  • Pérez 63% / Hülkenberg 37%
  • Ricciardo 56% / Verstappen 44%
  • Vettel 53% / Räikkönen 47%
  • Hamilton 52% / Rosberg 48%
  • Magnussen 50% – Palmer 50%

* We do not count the other partner pairs, since it has not been the case that both pair drivers have scored.
