IIHF World Juniors: The decisive phase began in qualifying in the World Junior Championship 2017 where they failed to fail any of the favorites, although the USA had to suffer much more than expected to surpass its rival. In the tie for the stay Finland did not give rise to more surprises.

Denmark 0 – 4 Russia

Despite finishing in the third place of their group, the Russians had to face the revelation of the tournament, Denmark. Russia dominated the game almost completely and after 20 minutes already commanded on the scoreboard with the goals of Polunin and Kaprizov. In the last period, Karnaukhov and again Kaprizov sentenced a Danish team that returns home with the goal more than fulfilled.

Sweden 8 – 3 Slovak Republic

Despite not being a showy game, the Swedes are still intractable and continue to count their matches for victories. Sweden had already won 5-0 with goals from Eriksson Ek, Soderlund, Grundstrom, Nylander and Karlstrom. The Czechs could not withstand the onslaught of shots (50). Bodak and Struska cut the distance before the last break and Ruzicka put some excitement to the game with 5-3, but in 3 minutes the Swedes, with two more goals, sentenced.

United States 3 – 2 Switzerland

After beating Canada and reaching the top of Group B, this tie was expected to be relatively easy for the Americans. After 20 minutes everything indicated that it would be with 2 to 0 of Bracco and Kunin, but Nico Hischier was not willing to go home without putting things difficult to the Americans and with two goals in superiority tied the match, although Greenway, 18 seconds after the draw, returned the lead to the United States. Tyler Parsons resisted the final push of Switzerland and theirs will be in the semifinals.

Canada 5 – 3 Czech Republic

Canada also had to work hard to overcome a Czech Republic that advanced on the scoreboard through David Kase and could extend their lead before the first break. After the pause, the Canadians jumped on the ice with a very different attitude and Speers and Stephens turned the score, although Soustal equalized again before the equator of the second period. Chabot returned the advantage to Canada and during the first 7 minutes of the last period the exchange of blows finished with the definitive 5 to 3.

Finland 2 – 1 Latvia

In the first game of the tie for the permanence, Finland had to suffer again to put the first point in their marker after having problems facing the goal once again. Saarijarvi overtook the Finns in the 8th minute, Ponomarenko equalized after the break and Kristian Vesalainen made the winning goal in the 9 minutes of the last period.

Finland 4 – 1 Latvia

The second and finally final encounter for the permanence was solved in the third period, which was entered with a tie to 1. In 2 minutes Saarijarvi and Valimaki put land in between and with 2 minutes and a half, again Valimaki in a Double superiority sentenced to a Latvian selection that descends of category.
